Trending Beauty for Summer 2019

Is it just me or is it heating up in here? Summer (not winter) is coming, and we best be ready when she does. Say goodbye to subtle; it’s time to layer that bronzer and deck out your hair. Here’s to the exciting new trends for summer 2019!

What says summer more than colourful eye makeup? Margot Robbie made this look a lewk at this year’s BAFTAs with the help of Pati Dubriff, the artist behind her makeup. Pati chose a gorgeous royal blue to compliment the actresses’ eye. Now – and I don’t blame you - the idea of a blue eye sounds a little like Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra; but this year is all about a colour pop, rather than a colour wash. To keep this beauty look modern, use a bright coloured eye pencil and line your bottom and top lid. For added drama, smudge the liner so your colour smokes out. Top tip: Choose a colour that will bring out your eye colour!

Now, is it really summer if we don’t take our bronzer everywhere? Thanks to some extra vitamin D, our skin champions a sun kissed glow. This can still be achieved whilst wearing a high SPF (factor 30 or higher) and is maintained by keeping your skin hydrated. A little cheat to enhance the shade of your tan is our old friend: bronzer. Apply this in a figure of three to the side of your face, starting between your temples and the centre of your forehead, sweeping to underneath your cheek before taking it down underneath your jaw. To achieve the most natural look possible, use the teeniest bit of product and keep building. This technique can be used on your collarbones and chest too! Top tip: Enhance your bronzer by adding a little shimmer to your high points.

This season, the trend is to keep the skin looking natural which is made easy by the previously mentioned bronzer trick. For a fresh look, simply apply and blend concealer to your under eyes, corners of your nose and the high point of your chin. If you prefer more coverage (like me), you can begin this look by using a BB cream all over the face. This is a great alternative to using a foundation as it is weightless yet still grants more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. Pairing your BB cream with concealer (I opt for heavy-duty) will allow you medium to high coverage without giving you an unnatural finish. Top tip: In this case, less is more.

I did mention we were leaving subtlety in Spring, right? Just as well, this summer is all about adding bling to your bangs. Move over bobby pins, hair accessories are this year’s vogue. The one rule: anything goes! From the Selena inspired ‘UGLY’ hair grips, to hair claps and hair scarfs – the possibilities are endless. Not that we need an excuse to wear hair accessories, it doesn’t hurt to know that they double as a saviour for hair that’s looking dull. This fashion piece is an ideal tool for us girls that don’t wash our hair every day. Second day or dry shampooed hair has enough grit to hold a style, and when it comes to hair accessories the more texture the better! If you’re on trend, you’re embracing this trend. Top tip: ‘Stand out from the crowd’.

The season is fast approaching and I’m getting excited. One thing that’s clear - these trends are to be interpreted and embraced by you. Be bold, be unique and adapt each trend to your personal style! You do you!
