The Review: Kalaya Body Butter Fragrance Collection
Kalaya is at it again with creating new products that I can always count on! You may already know of their amazing Wild Maple Body Butter - smells so good that you want to eat it (but they’d probably advise you don’t). Kalaya has now extended their Body Butter line with FIVE new scents, all from different fragrance families! They were all professionally formulated with nourishing ingredients to help replenish, protect, moisturize and intensely hydrate - just what your skin needs this winter.
What is a Fragrance Family?
Who knew there was such a thing as fragrance families?! We can all agree that we prefer certain scents over others, but the science behind Fragrance Families is that we tend to lean towards one fragrance family over another, or prefer one for summer weather and another for winter weather. Kalaya’s new Body Butter Collection are based on the following fragrance families: Fruity, Floral, Fresh, Fourgère and Gourmand. Never heard of some of those? Well me neither!
Fourgère: After a bit of research, I’ve found that Fourgère fragrances are woody, very earthy scents. This family evokes a confident, serious and grounded scent experience. Fourgère scents are more popular during earlier warmer seasons like spring and it's the kind of scent you would wear to an important meeting.
Gourmand: Gourmand is defined by its sweet, edible, dessert like scent. They stand out because of their unique blend of warmth and sensuality. They draw their richness from heady substances like musk and precious woods, and are often associated with exotic floral and spicy scents. This is definitely a Fall/Winter scent that you can cozy up to!
Fruity: Fruity is grouped as refreshing, light, airy and sweet. Fruity fragrances mimic the scent of either the juice, zest or blossom of fruit. Sweet, juicy and edible, the Fruity Fragrance Family includes original scents of a unique sensuality. Because of their lightness, these are scents you’d lean towards in warmer months.
Floral: The Floral family is the most common family, and it usually has a similar smell to fresh-cut flowers. It’s most often used in women’s fragrances because it can be quite feminine. Definitely a more sophisticated scent and a nice evening fragrance.
Fresh: Fresh is used to describe clean bright scents, a mixture of herby, citrusy (zesty / tangy) and oceanic. They’re said to smell uplighting, fresh, clean and crisp, as well this family is more often used in men’s fragrances than women’s - the perfect scent for the Spring/Summer!
What other ingredients are in Kalaya Body Butters?
There are three main ingredients that can be found in all the Kalaya Body Butters:
- Shea Butter: Rich in vitamins, this anti-inflammatory ingredient nourishes the skin, reduces redness and helps to keep it healthy.
- Glycerin: A natural humectant that can be naturally derived from plant oils, it intensely moisturizes and hydrates the skin by forming a protective layer.
- Vitamin E: A natural antioxidant, it repairs and protects the skin against environmental pollution.
The Fragrance Collection
Each body butter is enhanced with a key ingredient that differentiates themselves from the other fragrance families. Ingredients like Eucalyptus, Chamomile, Pine Extract, Green Tea Extract and Murumuru Butter have similar things in common, like being a great anti-inflammatory or powerful antioxidant. Anti-inflammatory ingredients help to reduce redness and soothe sensitive or irritated skin. Antioxidant ingredients protect your skin against free radicals that cause aging. But they also have their own unique qualities as well:
Nectarine Blush (from the Fruity Family) is enhanced with Eucalyptus: it's known for its rich in antibacterial properties, it also helps to cleanse, purify and clarify the skin.
Evening Orchid (from the Floral Family) is enhanced with Chamomile: (similar to Eucalyptus) not only is an anti-inflammatory but as well an anti-aging ingredient and natural antioxidant! Chamomile protects the skin against the free radicals that cause aging.
Wood Sage (from the Fourgère Family) is enhanced with Pine Extract: known for its moisturizing properties, it hydrates the skin and keeps it healthy.
Pacific Fresh (from the Fresh Family) is enhanced with Green Tea Extract: this is rich in antibacterial properties, it also helps to cleanse, purify and clarify the skin.
Lastly, Vanilla Hibiscus (from the Gourmand Family) with Murumuru Butter: rich in Vitamin A, antioxidants and fatty acids, it helps to restore elasticity to aging or damaged skin.
