The Review: Cannabis Sativa Concentrate

Gather your moisturizing and hydrating skin care products together for the cooler weather before your skin needs rescuing! One product I can personally vouch for (after this month’s review), is the new Kalaya Cannabis Sativa Concentrate. With this product you can say goodbye to dry skin this Fall - it’s unique formula was developed specifically to moisturize and balance skin hydration.

What is a Concentrate?

What’s in the Kalaya Concentrate?

The Kalaya Cannabis Sativa Concentrate is formulated with - you guessed it - therapeutic concentrations of Cannabis Sativa. Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the Cannabis Sativa plant. It’s known for being a powerful skincare ingredient that helps to reduce redness, calm stressed skin and balance hydration. An important note here is that there are no THC properties in this concentrate, so for those of you who are wondering, no, it will not make you high! Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil is also a carrier oil for the other ingredients, and helps them absorb more quickly into the skin. Plus, Cannabis Sativa is high in vitamins and nutrients, so it should help keep skin healthy and prevent any future breakouts. This concentrate is also enhanced with Shea & Rosemary Oil to hydrate, nourish and protect. Shea Oil intensely moisturizes and soothes dry skin, and unlike Shea Butter, it’s non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog your pores (YAY!). Rosemary Oil is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, so it helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. And that’s seriously it. There are no other ingredients in this concentrate. So, if you’re looking for cleaner beauty products, this is definitely one to try.

What should I look for in a Concentrate?

What should I look for in a Concentrate?

If you’re going to try a concentrate, to make your decision a little easier, I did a bit of research on what to look for. There were a few things that stood out to me: (1) It’s recommended that you shouldn’t choose one where water is the first ingredient - water quickly evaporates so water-based concentrates may only temporarily relieve dryness. Plus, formulas that contain water usually require preservatives like parabens (which I’m trying to avoid in my skincare routine). (2) The container really matters, especially for serums which contain ingredients that are affected by oxidation. Experts recommend you look for serums in light-blocking packaging because exposure to light and heat will damage the oil. (3) Focus in on what your skin care goal is and determine what skin type you are - is your skin dry, oily or acne-prone? Choose a concentrate that focuses on one feature that will best benefit your skin type. Based on these criteria, the Kalaya Cannabis Sativa Concentrate is definitely worth a try. It contains three amazing ingredients (none of which are water). It also comes in an light-blocking packaging with an airless pump, which keeps out light, heat and oxygen to maintain the efficacy of the formulation inside. Plus, it’s two key benefits are hydration and reducing redness. So, if you are dealing with dry skin that’s in need of hydrating and/or you want to calm your skin, this is a product you must try!

The Verdict

How was it?

My skin has never felt more healthy, hydrated and moisturized. Once I cleansed my face in the morning and before bed, I applied my moisturizer and waited for about twenty minutes before applying 2-3 pumps of this concentrate. My skin felt incredibly smooth after the application and I was shocked at how quickly the concentrate absorbed into my skin. I was extremely happy with how glowy it made me, and that it was maintained throughout a long and tiring work day. So verdict - 10/10 would purchase again and recommend to a friend!
